Civil Construction

Harnessing the right workforce and material for the proposed project whether an entire house or room extension to an existing house is a testament to Civil construction being undertaken by this company.

We are not limited to brick and mortar. Gypsum, steel frame, concrete floor decking, commercial/private tinting floor installation, laminate, wood, hard wood or tile. Window and door installation together with sundry, ironmongery, fittings, electrical and plumbing works, cameras, and alarms. Roof fabrication and installation. Kitchen renovation and cabinetry.

Over the 17 years of the company’s existence, we have executed all the above and more to the client’s satisfaction. During that time, we have gained a mass of highly trained and experience professionals and a wide client base both private and commercial.

We have faced and overcome project constraints such as adverse weather, time restraints to get completed on time.

Project Management

All projects regardless of the size has a beginning a middle and an end. The project manager’s life mission is to make sure that each stage is executed efficiently and effectively. Not to mention it is also their duty to manage the client’s expectations and control scope.

  • At project initiation:

the project manager discusses with the client feasibility, finances, indication of the project implications and potential risks and estimated budget may be presented.

  • At project execution:

At this stage the project budget has been finalized, the location approval has been secured. Long-lead items will be ordered at this time for timely delivery. This is when the project is most active and where all the planning in the initiation stage come to life as well as encountering the highest expenditure and risk.

  • At hand-over/project completion:

Supervision and frequent checks which would have been done at the previous stage are now finalized to make sure things have been done to specification and the workmanship is up to standard and the client is satisfied. Temporary site office is demobilized final payments made

and project is closed off.

Daily the project manager is expected to control all aspects of the construction meaning:

  • financial
  • harnessing resources both human and material,
  • safety and tools.

Project Supervision

In any given project, there are materials, lab our and tools.  These three items need to be Co-ordinated to ensure that the client is getting value for money and that the project is being executed in the most efficient manner.

The project supervisor, in conjunction with the project manager, ensures that the drawings are interpreted correctly, and material and labour are placed as designed with an aspect of time being taken into consideration.

The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the level of workmanship is up to industry standard as a minimum and most importantly exceeds the client expectations. He/she is the daily presence on site representing the Project Manager.

They would be required to have more than a working knowledge of the proposed trades involved on the project as some “on the spot decisions” may have to be made sometimes, that may be time sensitive, although there is constant and clear communication with the project manager. In the absence of the project manager the supervisor has all parameters necessary to make the right decisions in the interest of the project.

Graughting

This is the process of composing sketches, ideas and thoughts and converting them onto paper or other medium so they can be interpreted and understood by others whether client   other professionals or workmen.

This process of development here forms clear and defined sketches that can be further developed into working drawings for construction and/or submission for approval to the relevant statutory authorities.

On countless occasions we have overseen the development of such sketches to the production of a full set of working drawings. A key ingredient in the production of such drawings is the co-ordination
and inclusion of other disciplines and trades namely, electrical, plumbing, and structural reinforcement always with a view of the end-result/vision being priority.

At GDCL we strongly believe That with a clear set of drawings both contractor and client can benefit from having a common medium to:

     A.    Assist with project pricing

     B.    Both parties can look at the proposed end and
     product

     C.     Any construction mishaps can be caught earlier.
(wrongly located walls etc.) it also allows each trade know what the other is  doing.

     D.    Also, at the end of the project it serves as a
reference document for future works or problem solving.

     E.     Manage project expectations. (i.e., Scope)

     F.     By identifying the detailed location of electrical, plumbing, and sundry works.
